Faisalabad is the third largest city in Pakistan with an estimated 2006 population of 2.6 million (city proper). The Faisalabad district has an area of 5,856 sq km and a population of 5,430,547 (5.4 Million approx) souls. This district consists of six sub-divisions, such as Faisalabad (City), Faisalabad (Sadar), Jaranwala, Chak Jhumra, Jaranwala, Samundri and Tandlianwala. Faisalabad district has made rapid strides in the field of industry. It is now called the "Manchester of Asia" for its extensive development of textile industry. Roughly, there are 512 large industrial units out of which 328 are textile units, 92 engineering units and 92 chemicals & food processing units. Other industries include hosiery, carpet & rugs, nawar & lace, printing & publishing and pharmaceutical products etc. There are also some 12,000 house-hold industries, which include some 6,000 power loom factories.
